Richard
Williams joined MacGillivrays in 2004.
Richard’s
experience in banking was initially gained through practice as
a corporate solicitor with a major bank. After leaving the bank,
he joined a Melbourne law firm as a partner and established a
successful banking practice.
In
the 1990s, Richard was intimately involved in the development
of legislation affecting non-bank financial institutions. He has
acted on behalf of various finance industry associations. As a
result, Richard has developed considerable expertise in lending
law and knowledge in government relations.
His
practice, based in Melbourne, now covers commercial law and retail
lending. He conducts a wide range of work for financial institutions,
providing advice on lending, recoveries, legislative change, compliance
and general corporate matters. He has particular expertise in
consumer credit, privacy law, anti money laundering, finance broking
and other legislation affecting financial institutions.
Richard
graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of
Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws. His memberships include the Corporate
Lawyers Association, the Mortgage Finance Association of Australia,
Finance Brokers Association of Australia, Australian Corporate
Lawyers Association and the Law Institute of Victoria.
Outside
work, Richard likes to spend time with his teenage children, ski,
swim, bushwalk and pursue his interest in photography and woodwork.
